Mollie Halpern: The FBI—together with the private sector and academia—is enhancing its efforts to identify complex cyber threats and mitigate existing ones.

The FBI-established National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance, or NCFTA, is a non-profit organization dedicated to proactively addressing cyber crime at home and abroad.

NCFTA, founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1997, is adding offices in New York City and Los Angeles.

The new offices will share the same benefits of leveraging the combined strengths of law enforcement, the private sector, and academia to fight cyber crime.

Cyber special agents like Brad Carpenter are stationed on-site in NCFTA offices, which fosters relationship-building among participants.

Brad Carpenter: The reason we want to have that close relationship is so that we can share technical indicators with one another on a real-time basis so that we can help these companies immediately deal with the cyber threats that might be critical to their operations.

Halpern: These NCFTA partnerships assist in protecting companies’ brands, reputations, shareholder values, and customer confidence.
