ATLANTA—Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Mark F. Giuliano, in conjunction with Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes, announces the following arrests at Liberty County, Georgia, in connection with yesterday’s armed robbery of the Interstate Federal Credit Union, located at 11868 East Oglethorpe Highway in Midway, Georgia.

On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at approximately 8:36 a.m., two black males, armed with handguns, attempted to enter the rear door of the Interstate Federal Credit Union, 11868 East Oglethorpe Highway in Midway, Georgia. An observant bank employee quickly locked the rear doors of the bank while instructing other bank employees to call the police. Both of the would-be robbers ran back into the adjacent woods.

Responding Liberty County Sheriff’s Office K-9 units were able to track the individuals to the woodlines. Additional investigation determined that a black Chevrolet Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) picked up three males running out of those woods, two of those individuals matching the descriptions and bank surveillance photos of the robbers.

A Liberty County Sheriff’s Detective noticed a black Chevrolet Captiva SUV parked off Cay Creek Road, about one mile south of the victim bank. This SUV matched that from the robbery. While attempting to approach this vehicle, it pulled away from the responding officer. After a brief pursuit, the vehicle pulled into the El Cheapo gas station, located at 13670 East Oglethorpe Highway in Midway, Georgia.

Taken into custody by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and now charged federally by the FBI with violation of Title 18 USC 2113 (d), attempted bank robbery, are the following individuals:

  • Durrell Jones, age 32, of Savannah, Georgia
  • Randy Jones, age 31, of Savannah/Midway, Georgia
  • Kendell Stevens, age 24, of Savannah, Georgia
  • Demetrious Hall, age 30, of Savannah, Georgia

All are currently being housed at the Liberty County, Georgia Detention Facility and will be afforded an initial appearance in front of a U.S. Magistrate Judge on Friday, November 15, 2013.

The resulting federal criminal complaint is a direct result of an aggressive response by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Midway Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the resulting immediate investigative response by their office, as well as that of the FBI and agents from the local office of the U.S. Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and explosives (ATF).

The public should be reminded that the above are merely allegations and that all persons are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
