Dear Editor:
Friday's front page story "FBI Looks at Closing Some of its Field Offices...," may have misled readers on a critically important issue to both FBI employees and the American public it serves.
There are no plans to close, consolidate or realign any FBI offices at this time. As the FBI continues to implement the major deployment approved last summer, Director Mueller is assessing the ongoing restructuring and reengineering of the FBI to ensure that the Bureau is as agile, flexible and focused as possible to meet the objective of preventing terrorist attacks. Any future discussion of where resources are deployed, whether in the Field, overseas or at Headquarters, would be part of a broader review of how to best meet counterterrorism and counterintelligence priorities, and would be done in close consultation with the Department of Justice and Congress.
Sincerely,
Michael P. Kortan
