Michelle Ann Jupina Named Assistant Director of the FBI’s Records Management Division

Director Robert S. Mueller, III named Michelle Ann Jupina assistant director of the FBI’s Records Management Division. Ms. Jupina most recently served as deputy assistant director for operations support in the FBI’s Counterintelligence Division. Prior to this assignment, Ms. Jupina served for two years as special agent in charge of the Washington Field Office’s Intelligence Division.

“Michelle has served in numerous leadership roles during her 20 years of federal service. As a manager, she has strengthened the FBI’s intelligence programs, and I am confident she will effectively lead the Records Management Division,” said Director Mueller.

Ms. Jupina started her FBI career in 1996 as a special agent. After completion of training at the FBI Academy, her first assignment was at the Washington Field Office, where she investigated cyber, white-collar crime, criminal, and counterintelligence matters. While serving in this office, she received the U.S. Attorney’s Award for leading a high-profile cyber investigation. She later became a supervisory special agent in the National Infrastructure Protection Center and then in the FBI’s Cyber Division.

She has held a variety of positions during her career. She served as special assistant to the executive assistant director (EAD) of the National Security Branch (NSB), the EAD of intelligence, and the deputy EAD of administration. Ms. Jupina played an integral role in strengthening the FBI’s intelligence program and assisted in the establishment of the Directorate of Intelligence and the NSB.

Ms. Jupina served as section chief of the NSB executive staff. She oversaw the coordination of the national security budget, performance metrics, strategy, training, human resource matters, information technology matters, communications, and policy issues that cut across the five NSB components: Counterterrorism Division, Counterintelligence Division, Directorate of Intelligence, Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate, and the Terrorist Screening Center.

Prior to joining the FBI, she worked for the Department of Defense. She graduated from Virginia Tech University and Pennsylvania State University. Ms. Jupina earned a master’s degree in engineering and holds two Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics and education.
