Michael A. Rodriguez Named SAC Pittsburgh

Michael A. Rodriguez has been named Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the FBI’s Pittsburgh Field Office. Director Robert S. Mueller, III, appointed him to this position to replace SAC Ray A. Morrow, who retired in November. Most recently, Mr. Rodriguez served as Chief Inspector in the Inspection Division at FBI Headquarters.

Mr. Rodriguez entered on duty as a special agent of the FBI in November 1983. Upon completion of training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA, he was assigned to the San Antonio Division, where he worked a variety of criminal matters and specialized in the investigation of drug trafficking organizations. During two tours in the Washington Field Office, Mr. Rodriguez worked as undercover agent in counterintelligence, public corruption, and drug investigations. He also served in the San Juan Division, investigating counterterrorism and criminal matters.

While assigned to FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Mr. Rodriguez served on the Director’s Security Detail and in the Human Resources Division. In September 1992, he was part of the development team for the National Drug Intelligence Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where he was responsible for the creation of the Central and South American Strategic and Organizational Intelligence branches.

In April 1999, Mr. Rodriguez was assigned to the Milwaukee Division, where he supervised the Organized Crime, Drug, and Criminal Enterprise Investigation Squad. While there, he also managed a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and a Safe Streets Task Force targeting violent gangs and major international drug trafficking organizations.

In February 2003, Mr. Rodriguez was appointed the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Jacksonville Division, where he assumed executive management responsibilities in all aspects of the FBI's investigative and administrative operations in Jacksonville. Mr. Rodriguez served as an On Scene Commander in the Joint Operations Center for the 2004 G-8 Summit and as co-chairman of the Jacksonville Super Bowl Federal Agency subcommittee responsible for the planning, oversight, and coordination of federal agency resources used during Super Bowl XXXIX.

Mr. Rodriguez was promoted to Inspector in March 2005. In this role, he led teams responsible for sensitive investigations and the assessment of FBI operations and performance around the world. In November 2006, he was designated the FBI’s Chief Inspector.
