Mollie Halpern: The FBI is dedicating additional resources to law enforcement on the country’s 200-plus Indian reservations. The FBI is examining ways to ensure all tribal law enforcement has access to its information systems and national databases. These free-of-charge systems provide law enforcement with real-time and accurate criminal justice and intelligence information. The systems also facilitate information sharing by accepting data submissions. Deputy Assistant Director of the Criminal Justice Information Services Division Randall Thysee.

Randall Thysee: We want to ensure that all law enforcement agencies across the country—including our tribal law enforcement—have the same investigative tools needed to perform their job.

Halpern: The FBI’s multi-pronged approach to provide tribes with these critical services includes a pilot project now underway, as well as…

Thysee: ...the creation of a tribal task force, as well as the creation of a new unit. Both will identify, address, and mitigate issues facing Indian Country.
