FBI Announces Arrest of Michael Mitchell

Today, Brian P. Boetig, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Buffalo Division, announces the arrest of Michael Mitchell, 21 years old, of Buffalo, New York. On December 18, 2013, the United States District Court for the Western District of New York issued an arrest warrant for Mitchell based on a criminal complaint that charges him with bank robbery in violation of Title 18 United States Code Sections 2113(a) and 2.

The FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force led this multi-jurisdictional investigation into Mitchell’s alleged criminal activities. The task force worked closely with additional law enforcement agencies during the course of this investigation, including the Lackawanna Police Department, Niagara Falls Police Department, and Rochester Police Department.

The Safe Streets Task Force is comprised of the Amherst Police Department; Buffalo Police Department; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; Cheektowaga Police Department; Erie County Sheriff’s Office; Hamburg Police Department; Lancaster Police Department; Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority; New York State Department of Correctional Services; New York State Police; and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement–Homeland Security Investigations.

Assistant United States Attorney Mary Catherine Baumgarten is handling the prosecution of this case under the direction of United States Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr.
