Arkport Man Sentenced in Child Pornography Case

ROCHESTER, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Daniel Lasnick, 49, of Arkport, New York, who was convicted of receiving and distributing child pornography, was sentenced to 13 years in prison and 15 years’ supervised release by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa J. Miller, who handled the case, stated that during an undercover investigation of peer-to-peer file sharing networks by the New York State Police, the defendant was found trading child pornography images and videos online. As part of his plea, Lasnick admitted to receiving and distributing child pornography over the file sharing network. Many of the images depicted images of prepubescent minors and violent acts involving children.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Christopher M. Piehota, along with investigators from the New York State Police, under the direction of Superintendent Joseph D’Amico.
