Buffalo Man Pleads Guilty to Fraud Conspiracy

BUFFALO, NY—MICHAEL J. CULLIGAN, 62, of Buffalo, New York, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara, to a felony charge of conspiracy to defraud, U.S. Attorney Kathleen M. Mehltretter of the Western District of New York announced today. Conspiracy to defraud carries a maximum penalty of five (5) years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
U.S. Attorney Mehltretter stated that Culligan overvalued motor vehicles when involved in selling the vehicles at a used car dealership located on Abbott Road in Buffalo, New York, of which he was a principal owner.
The plea was the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of James H. Robertson, Special Agent in Charge.
Sentencing is scheduled for April 15, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. EST, in Buffalo, N.Y., in front of U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.
