Former West Virginia Elementary Teacher Sentenced 120 Months for Sexual Enticement of a Minor

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Douglas Hunt, age 52, of Charlestown, W.V., was sentenced today to 120 months in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release. Hunt pled guilty on Feb. 27, 2009, to sexual enticement of a minor.

Hunt also will be required to register as a sex offender in any U.S. jurisdiction in which he lives, works or attends school. As a special condition of his supervised release, Hunt – a West Virginia elementary school teacher at the time of his Dec. 4, 2008, arrest – will be required to surrender any teaching licenses he currently holds in any state including, but not limited to, West Virginia.

Boente, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Joseph Persichini Jr., Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office; Joseph Price, Leesburg Chief of Police; and Steve Simpson, Loudoun County Sheriff, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge T.S. Ellis, III.

According to court documents and proceedings, on Dec. 3, 2008, Hunt responded to an Internet ad by an undercover detective with the Leesburg Police Department. Further communication with Hunt resulted in his offer to pay $200 for sexual activity with two girls, ages 12 and 13. On Dec. 4, 2008, Hunt arrived at a pre-arranged location in Leesburg, Va., paid the undercover detective and obtained a hotel room key for the room where the young girls were allegedly waiting. Hunt was subsequently arrested on his way to the hotel room.

This investigation was conducted by the Leesburg Police Department, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI Washington Field Office. This case is being prosecuted in the Eastern District of Virginia by Special Assistant United States Attorney Andrew McCormack, who is on detail from the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section of the Department of Justice.
