FBI and Local Law Enforcement Seek Public’s Assistance to Identify Serial Bank Robber
Suspect Believed to Be Responsible for Three Bank Robberies This Month

The El Cajon Police Department, La Mesa Police Department San Diego Police Department and the FBI are seeking the public’s assistance to identify an unknown male believed to be responsible for three bank robberies. The latest robbery in this series occurred on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, involving the robbery of the Bank of America located at 5851 Balboa Avenue, San Diego, California.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at approximately 12:48 p.m., the Bank of America located at 5851 Balboa Avenue, San Diego, California, was robbed by an unknown male using a demand note. At the time of the robbery, the robber entered the bank, approached the victim teller, and produced a demand note for cash. The demand note threatened the robber was armed with a bomb and demanded specific denominations. After receiving a sum of money, the robber exited the bank. No injuries were reported.

This same unknown male is believed to be responsible for the Friday, July 5, 2013 robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank located at 5610 Lake Murray Boulevard, La Mesa, California and the Tuesday, July 16, 2013 robbery of the U.S. Bank located at 490 Fletcher Parkway, El Cajon, California. In all three robberies, the unknown male uses a demand note and threatens to have a bomb.

Witnesses describe the robber as follows:

  • Sex: Male
  • Race: White
  • Height: Approximately 5’5” to 5’7” tall
  • Weight: Approximately 170 lbs.-200 lbs.
  • Hair: Gray and black hair, goatee beard with mustache
  • Build: Medium to heavy
  • Age: Mid-50s
  • Complexion: Ruddy complexion with acne scars
  • Clothing: Glasses with clear tinted lenses, green polo shirt with horizontal stripes. Blue recyclable cloth bag with handles.
