Christopher Glenn Lakey Sentenced in U.S. District Court

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that during a federal court session in Great Falls on March 14, 2012 before U.S. District Judge Sam E. Haddon, CHRISTOPHER GLENN LAKEY, a 24-year-old resident of Great Falls, appeared for sentencing. LAKEY was sentenced to a term of:
- Prison: 50 months
- Special assessment: $100
- Supervised release: three years
LAKEY was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea to robbery affecting commerce.
In an offer of proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paulette L. Stewart, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:
On January 8, 2011, while making pizza deliveries, “John Doe” was followed by a white car. The white car stopped behind his car when he stopped to deliver pizzas at a Great Falls residence. A man from the white car got out and started asking John Doe questions about the pizza shop such as, “What time do you stop delivering?” and “What time does the pizza shop close?” John Doe began to answer the questions when the robber pulled out a folding knife with the blade exposed and pointed it at John Doe. The robber then demanded, “Give me your money.” After John Doe gave the robber the money from his right pocket, the robber ran back to the white car.
The robbers had taken the “bank” provided by the pizza shop. The bank is used to make change for pizza delivery customers and is money that belongs to the pizza business, not the delivery driver.
John Doe noted the vehicle’s license plate as it drove away. The license plate came back to a Great Falls resident who had loaned the vehicle to LAKEY and another individual. John Doe described the robber as a Native American male between the ages of 18- and 23-years-old. The robber wore a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood up. The robber also had some facial hair in the chin and mustache areas.
During LAKEY’s arrest the same day, police officers located a black and silver folding knife on his person. The officers also found $20 on LAKEY in the form of 10 $1.00 bills and two $5.00 bills.
When questioned, LAKEY admitted to driving during the robbery. According to LAKEY, the other individual did the actual robbery of the delivery driver. LAKEY was the driver and the other individual was the passenger. LAKEY stated that the delivery driver followed them for a time after the robbery. LAKEY said the knife was his, but the money was handed to him by the other individual before they started running from the police. LAKEY said the other individual was wearing a dark hoodie and had some facial hair.
Because there is no parole in the federal system, the “truth in sentencing” guidelines mandate that LAKEY will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, LAKEY does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for “good behavior.” However, this reduction will not exceed 15 percent of the overall sentence.
The investigation was a cooperative effort between the Great Falls Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Havre Police Department.
