Three Allentown Residents Charged in Armed Bank Robbery

United States Attorney Laurie Magid today announced the filing of an indictment against DWAYNE CESPEDES, MICHAEL GRANT and CURTIS WHITEHURST charging them with one count of conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery, one count of armed bank robbery, and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence.
The indictment alleges that on September 26, 2008, the defendants Dwayne Cespedes, Michael Grant, and Curtis Whitehurst committed the gunpoint robbery of the KNBT Bank. The bank branch was located inside Fellowship Manor at 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall, PA (Lehigh County). At this location, KNBT is a small office/bank located inside of an assisted living facility. Two of the defendants, Cespedes and Grant, entered the bank brandishing handguns while the third, Whitehurst, remained inside a vehicle as the getaway driver. The defendants stole approximately $24,467.00.

If convicted the defendant faces a maximum possible sentence of 25 years imprisonment, a mandatory minimum 7 years’ imprisonment, a $750,000 fine, 5 years supervised release, and a $300 special victims/witness assessment.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Allentown Resident Agency), with assistance from the Whitehall Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Seth Weber.
