Waterloo Man Sentenced for Making False Statements to the FAA

DES MOINES—Fahad Nabeel Hussein Al-Daous, 33, from Waterloo, Iowa, appeared in federal court in Des Moines today to be sentenced after his plea of guilty one count of making false statements to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Al-Daous was sentenced to a four-year term of probation and required to pay a $100 special assessment. The conditions of probation included a prohibition on applying for any pilot’s licenses or piloting any aircraft.
In a plea agreement, Al-Daous admitted falsely inflating the number of flight hours listed on instrument-rated pilot’s license applications he filed in Ottumwa, Iowa, on May 21 and May 27, 2011. Al-Daous also entered false information into his flight log, both before and after his May applications. The false statements in Al-Daous’ flight log were uncovered when he applied for a commercial pilot training program in September 2011.
This case was investigated by the United States Department of Transportation-Office of Inspector General and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
