FBI New York Assistant Director in Charge George Venizelos provided the following statement concerning the guilty verdict against Mathew Martoma on insider trading charges:

A competitive advantage gained through superior research and analysis is one thing. Cheating is another matter altogether. If material information isn’t public, you can’t trade on it. Today, Mathew Martoma found out the hard way when a Manhattan jury found him guilty of insider trading. The FBI will continue to investigate these cases of impropriety until those in the financial industry everywhere understand the importance of following the law.
