On Thursday, March 11, members of the FBI New York’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) provided a briefing to Mr. Erlan Karin, Secretary of the Nur Otan Political Party Kazakhstan. Mr. Karin’s visit was sponsored by the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, and he was accompanied by Liaison Jay Ellen Kerig.
Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) Maharias Aristedes, SSA Nora Conley, and NYPD Sergeant John T. Frawley briefed Mr. Karin on the Task Force's united efforts in fighting terrorism in Greater New York at the federal, state, and local levels and how New Yorkers themselves participate in providing the intelligence to assist the JTTF in terrorism prevention. They also discussed their joint mission in protecting citizens of both countries from terrorism and examining improving the counterterrorism efforts of both countries to ensure optimum security in an ever changing global society.
Secretary of the Nur Otan Political Party Kazakhstan, Mr. Erlan Karin said, “It is an honor to be here today. This is the final stop in a three-week trip to the U.S. and I am absolutely amazed at the scale of your work. It is also true that after many visits to several federal offices, I am grateful that at this stage of my trip your briefing provided new information I did not have before.”
SSA Aristedes added, “We are looking forward to our future interactions with Mr. Karin. Today’s exchange highlights the need for further partnership to mutually benefit against global threats from terrorism.”
