US Bank Robber Pleads Guilty in Federal Court

FARGO—United States Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced that on May 23, 2011, Scott Evans Maxwell pleaded guilty before United States District Court Judge Ralph R. Erickson to a charge of bank robbery.

Maxwell, 36, pleaded guilty to robbing the US Bank located at 505 2nd Avenue North in downtown Fargo on February 17, 2011. At approximately 10:56 a.m., Maxwell walked into the bank through the west side doors and demanded money from one of the tellers. After receiving just slightly more than $400, Maxwell fled on foot down an alley south of the bank. Bank employees immediately notified law enforcement. Maxwell was caught shortly thereafter in the alley behind State Bank and Trust at 51 North Broadway by officers from the Fargo Police Department. All of the monies taken in the robbery were recovered.

The charge of bank robbery carries a statutory maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Sentencing for Maxwell has been scheduled for August 1, 2011, in United States District Court in Fargo, North Dakota, at 1:30 p.m..

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Fargo Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorney Keith Reisenauer is prosecuting the case.
