Parmelee Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse of a Minor

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Ian James Burning Breast, age 19, of Parmelee, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on October 20, 2011. Burning Breast pled guilty to sexual abuse of a minor. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both.

During the time period of October 1, 2010, to December 31, 2010, Ian James Burning Breast engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim, at a time when she was 13 years old and he was over 18 years old.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for January 9, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
