Tomah Man Sentenced to 20 Months for Pharmacy Robbery

MADISON, WI—John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jesse Kirk, 35, Tomah, Wisconsin, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Lynn S. Adelman to 20 months in federal prison for pharmacy robbery. Kirk pleaded guilty to the charge on October 3, 2013. Kirk was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim pharmacies in the amount of $8,154.82.
Kirk admitted to robbing four Madison-area pharmacies over a 10-day period in April 2013, stealing various types of controlled substances, including OxyContin.
During sentencing, Judge Adelman found that while Kirk’s robberies were driven by his own drug addiction, a prison sentence was warranted because of the severity of the conduct and the fact he victimized pharmacy staff during the robberies. During a robbery on April 15, 2013, Kirk told pharmacy staff, “You have two minutes or you are going to get hurt.”
The charges against Kirk were the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Madison Police Department. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith Duchemin.
