Man Charged with Robbing Blue Springs Bank

KANSAS CITY, MO—Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a man was charged in federal court today with robbing Bank 21 in Blue Springs, Mo.

Roy K. Miller, Jr., 32, address unknown, was charged with bank robbery in a federal criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Mo.

According to an affidavit filed in support of today’s criminal complaint, Miller entered Bank 21, 3301 S.W. 7 Hwy., Blue Springs, at approximately 4:13 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. Miller allegedly walked to the deposit counter in the middle of the bank’s lobby, wrote a demand note on a blank deposit slip, then gave the note to a bank teller. The teller handed him $5,126 from her cash drawer, the affidavit says, and Miller left the bank.

Blue Springs police officers saw Miller running through a wooded area, where a foot pursuit ended with his arrest. Police officers recovered $4,531 scattered on the ground in the vicinity of the chase.

Phillips cautioned that the charge contained in this complaint is simply an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charge must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Davids. It was investigated by the Blue Springs, Mo., Police Department and the FBI.
