SAC Remarks on the Recovery of Alexandria and Kylivah Bain

I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly acknowledge and thank the many individuals, businesses, churches, and communities who provided support and encouragement to law enforcement personnel during the search for Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain, and their abductor, Adam Mayes.

On May 6, 2012, a command post was established in Guntown, Mississippi,from which federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies coordinated the Mississippi operations of this rescue effort. The command post was operational 24-hours a day, as everyone involved in this search and rescue effort worked tirelessly in a unified effort to locate and recover the Bain children.

Over the course of the next six days, hundreds of tired, hungry, and thirsty officers and staff passed through the command post to receive work assignments and updates on the progress of the search. Because of the generosity of communities in the area, they also received much needed nourishment. Individuals, businesses, and churches from Baldwyn, Blue Springs, Guntown, Marietta, New Albany, Saltillo, Tupelo, and others, delivered enormous amounts of food and beverages to the command post. I commented to a staff member that I could not open the door to the command post without someone handing me a delicious cake!

All of us who benefitted from this outpouring of support were grateful for the food, and also for the spirit in which it was given. While they could not search for Alexandria and Kyliyah themselves, the residents of these communities provided significant assistance to the search effort by supporting and providing for the physical needs of the searchers.

On behalf of the men and women in law enforcement who participated in the successful rescue and recovery of Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain, I want to thank all of those who provided food, beverages, and encouragement for their generosity and support.

Through experiences such as this, we are made aware that we all have a role to play in achieving our common goal—keeping our families and our communities safe.
