FBI Cleveland Announces Yvonne Pointer as 2013 Recipient of the Director’s Community Leadership Award

FBI Cleveland April 01, 2014
  • Special Agent Vicki D. Anderson (216) 522-1400

On Friday, April 4, 2014, Cleveland activist and author, Yvonne Pointer, will become the first person in the nation to receive the prestigious FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award for a second time. Ms. Pointer has committed herself to making the Cleveland community safer through supporting activities for city youth; being an active member in groups for parents of murdered children; establishing the Gloria Pointer Scholarship Fund, in remembrance of her daughter who was tragically murdered in 1984; and authoring Behind the Death of a Child.

Ms. Pointer turned a personal tragedy into social action. She is a dedicated supporter of victims of crime, locally, nationally, and internationally and a partner to law enforcement.

The Director’s Community Leadership Award, presented by FBI Director James Comey, was formally created in 1990 as a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in America. Ms. Pointer was previously recognized with this award in 1993. Her passion and commitment to our community and beyond has sustained many years. Yvonne Pointer joins the ranks of recent Cleveland Division winners: Fred Szabo, Jimmy Malone, the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, and Toledo’s Second Chance organization.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen Anthony said, “The dedication these recipients have to their community and the compassion they have toward members of their communities is clearly evidenced by their work. Yvonne Pointer has positively impacted the lives of so many and is well-deserving of this recognition.”

Ms Pointer can be reached at 216-392-5045 or Yvonnepointer@aol.com for interviews relating to this FBI award and her community involvement.
