Springfield Man Sentenced on Crack Cocaine Charges

BOSTON—A Springfield man was sentenced to three years in federal prison yesterday for conspiracy and distribution of cocaine base.
Antoine Watts, 33, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to three years in prison followed by six years of supervised release.
On June 8, 2011, following a jury trial, Watts was found guilty of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute and distribution of cocaine base. On April 16, 2009, Watts and another individual worked together to sell 27 grams of crack cocaine to a cooperating witness.
United States Attorney Carmen Ortiz; Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division; Michael Mastroianni, Hampden County District Attorney; Colonel Marian McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police; Commissioner William Fitchet of the Springfield Police Department; and Michael J. Ashe, Jr, Hampden County Sheriff announced the sentence today.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force, with assistance from the U.S. Marshal Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex J. Grant of Ortiz’s Springfield Branch Unit.
