SAVANNAH, GA—After a two-day trial, a jury in federal district court returned a guilty verdict yesterday against CHRISTOPHER ALLEN WILLIAMS, 27, of Savannah, Georgia, on bank robbery charges. The case was tried before District Court Judge William T. Moore, Jr.

According to the evidence presented at trial, WILLIAMS served as a getaway driver from the scene of several bank robberies in the Savannah area, including a November 12, 2009 bank robbery of the SunTrust Bank across from the Savannah Mall, and the December 11, 2009 bank robbery of the Wachovia Bank located on 6999 Abercorn Street. WILLIAMS’ accomplice, Mario Martis Weston, pled guilty earlier to his role in bank robberies. Weston testified during the trial that WILLIAMS was not involved in the bank robberies; his testimony was rejected by the jury.

WILLIAMS faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000. Both WILLIAMS and Weston will be sentenced upon the completion of presentence investigation reports prepared by the United States Probation Office. Both remain incarcerated pending sentencing.

United States Attorney Edward J. Tarver thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Savannah-Chatham County Metropolitan Police Department for their fine work. Mr. Tarver specifically praised the efforts of FBI Special Agent Christopher Blair and SCMPD Officer Trevor Kruwell, who investigated the case.

The government was represented in this case by Assistant United States Attorneys Greg Hurchalla and Charlie Borne. For additional information, please contact First Assistant United States Attorney James D. Durham at (912) 201-2547.
