The Jackson Division honors the Center for Violence Prevention for its outstanding contributions to address domestic violence in the community.

The Center for Violence Prevention is a non-profit organization established in 1991 with the belief that every person has the right to a life free from violence. It focuses on the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault clients through partnerships with community organizations and a committed staff. The organization is funded through federal and state grants, private foundations, businesses, civic organizations, churches, and individuals.

The center offers programs such as a crisis and referral line, a temporary shelter, outpatient counseling, workshops, and a second chance store. The center also provides victim services, a sexual assault crisis center, and a batterer’s intervention program. Services are in place to help individuals begin a productive life, independent of abusive relationships.

In April 2014, the Center for Violence Prevention hosted “A Call to Action: Identify and Stop Human Trafficking,” a conference in Brandon, Mississippi focused on informing the community about human trafficking.
