The Charlotte Division honors the High Point Community Against Violence (HPCAV) for their efforts to reduce violent crime in High Point.

The HPCAV is a non-profit community organization that works with the High Point Police Department’s Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF). HPCAV works with the VCTF to target the most violent offenders in High Point (based on their records and most current criminal activities). They warn each offender against wrongdoing with a pinpointed and focused message about the impact of violence, letting them know that violence will not be tolerated. They offer each individual help if they choose to turn their lives in a positive direction, and they insist on aggressive prosecution if these individuals return to crime.

Community policing has been practiced in High Point for more than 17 years. During that time, violent crime has been reduced by roughly 50 percent overall and homicides have been reduced by an average of 400 percent. This translates into millions of dollars of savings for High Point and North Carolina taxpayers. But most of all, this translates into a safer city and safer living for everyone.
