Tucson Bank Robber Sentenced to Eight Years in Federal Prison

TUCSON, AZ—Raul A. Gallegos, 40, of Westminster, Colo., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge David C. Bury to eight years in federal prison for robbing several banks located in Tucson, Westminster and El Paso, Texas.

Between December 2009 and late April 2010, Gallegos committed six bank robberies in Tucson and three in Texas and Colorado. In each of the robberies, Gallegos used notes to demand money from bank tellers. Gallegos pleaded guilty on May 9, 2011, to all nine counts of Bank Robbery.

The investigation in this case was conducted by Federal Bureau of Investigation (in Tucson, El Paso and Westminster), the Tucson Police Department, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marana Police Department. In addition, the U.S. Marshals Service assisted with the arrest. The prosecution was handled by Carin C. Duryee and Nicole P. Savel, District of Arizona, Tucson.
