Oklahoma Doctor Sentenced in Federal Court for Health Care Fraud

NEW ORLEANS, LA—DR. GREGORY KHOURY, age 56, a resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was sentenced yesterday in federal court by U.S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman to 30 months’ imprisonment for health care fraud, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition to the term of imprisonment, the defendant was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,012,809.19 to various health insurance companies and serve three years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on August 18, 2010, KHOURY pled guilty admitting that between 1999 until about June, 2006, he defrauded Medicare; the Federal Employee Health Benefit Plan (FEHBP) and its associated health care benefit providers, Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS); Tricare, the health care provided for active and retired members of the armed services and their families; CIGNA; Travelers Insurance Company; and Medigap insurance carriers by submitting fraudulent claims for patients who were not physically present in his office.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General; the United States Office of Personnel Management, Office of Inspector General; Defense Criminal Investigative Service; and Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Louisiana. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrice Harris Sullivan and Jordan Ginsberg.
