Businessman Sentenced for Conspiracy to Commit Bribery Involving a Public Official

NEW ORLEANS, LA—RAY ANTHONY DAVEZAC, age 55, a resident of Destrehan, Louisiana, was sentenced today in federal court by U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to six months’ imprisonment and six months of home detention for conspiracy to commit bribery involving a public official, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten. The defendant was also ordered to pay a $20,000 fine.
According to the court record, on April 22, 2010, DAVEZAC pled guilty and at that time admitted he owned and operated Davezac Consulting Engineers, LLC of Destrehan, Louisiana, which contracted to do work for St. John the Baptist Parish. On May 5, 2009, then-president of St. John the Baptist Parish William “Bill” Hubbard solicited a bribe from DAVEZAC. As a result of the solicitation, DAVEZAC paid $5,000 to a local automobile dealership for the benefit of Hubbard. Subsequently, DAVEZAC’s company received a contract from St. John Parish.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys James R. Mann and Brian M. Klebba.
