New Orleans Man Sentenced to 12 Months in Federal Prison for Narcotics Violations

MACK BAKER, a/k/a “Meatball,” a/k/a “Shawn,” a/k/a “Shine”, age 22, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon to twelve (12) months' imprisonment for two counts of distributing heroin, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten. Judge Fallon also imposed three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time, the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.

According to court documents, on April 8, 2010, BAKER pled guilty admitting that on two occasions, he illegally distributed heroin to an FBI confidential source. On September 17, 2009, while under surveillance, in front of his residence on Alabo Street in the Lower Ninth Ward, BAKER sold 1.39 grams of heroin to a confidential source. On October 14, 2009, again while under surveillance, BAKER was observed selling 1.42 grams of heroin to a confidential source near the area of Caffin St. and Urquart St. in the Lower Ninth Ward.

After sentencing, BAKER was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin his term of imprisonment.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Rick Veters.
