  • Eastern District of Louisiana (504) 680-3000

NEW ORLEANS, LA—TYRONE MORGAN, age 26, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was charged in a one-count bill of information with maliciously conveying false information, announced U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to the bill, on approximately May 4, 2009, MORGAN, who was a contractor employed at the Marathon Petroleum Refinery in Garyville, Louisiana, telephoned the security personnel at the refinery and falsely conveyed that the refinery would be damaged or destroyed by explosives.

If convicted, MORGAN faces a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of $250,000.00 and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

U.S. Attorney Letten reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Gregory M. Kennedy.
