New Orleans Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - MICHAEL NELSON, a/k/a MICHEAL NELSON, a/k/a MICHALL NELSON, a/k/a RED NELSON, age 45 and a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, plead guilty to a one-count indictment for bank robbery before U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

According to court documents, on Thursday, April 9, 2009, NELSON robbed the Whitney Bank at 465 Belle Terre Boulevard, LaPlace, Louisiana, of approximately $2,896 in United States currency.  The deposits of the Whitney Bank are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), an agency of the Federal government.

NELSON faces a maximum term of imprisonment of twenty (20) years, a fine of $250,000.00, and three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.  Sentencing is scheduled for September 9, 2009, at 9:00 am.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Edward J. Rivera of the Violent Crime Unit.
