Daphne Man Sentenced for Child Exploitation Crimes

United States Attorney Kenyen R. Brown of the Southern District of Alabama announced that Larry Douglas McPherson, 68, of Daphne, Alabama, was sentenced to more than 19 years in prison for child exploitation offenses. United States District Judge Callie V.S. Granade sentenced McPherson yesterday to 235 months in prison and lifetime supervision upon his release. McPherson will also have to register as a sex offender in any jurisdiction in which he lives or works.

McPherson was convicted in October following a jury trial. He was found guilty of attempting to entice a minor for sex, attempting to produce child pornography, and possession of child pornography. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the Orange Beach Police Department, conducted the investigation and presented the case for prosecution to the United States Attorney’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Sean P. Costello handled the prosecution of the case on behalf of the United States.

The investigation and prosecution were part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative. Project Safe Childhood is a unified and comprehensive strategy to combat child exploitation. Initiated in May, 2006, the initiative combines law enforcement efforts, community action, and public awareness to reduce the incidence of sexual exploitation of children.
