Dupree Woman Pleads Guilty to Hydrocodone Charge

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Carlynn Clown, age 28, of Dupree, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange on July 21, 2011, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged her with attempted acquisition of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception, and subterfuge. The maximum penalty upon conviction is four years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.
Between August 14 and August 16, 2010, Carlynn Clown knowingly and intentionally attempted to acquire and obtain possession of a controlled substance, hydrocodone, by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception, and subterfuge.
The investigation was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jay Miller.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for October 18, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
