Pine Ridge Woman Sentenced to Three Years’ Probation for Stealing Monies from Red Cloud Indian School

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a woman charged with larceny and aiding and abetting was sentenced on January 20, 2010, by U.S. District Judge Richard H. Battey. Elmarie Tobacco Thunderhawk, age 30, of Pine Ridge, was sentenced to three years' probation and ordered to pay $1,191.00 in restitution and $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund. Thunderhawk was indicted for larceny and aiding and abetting by a federal grand jury on July 21, 2009. Thunderhawk, along with two other individuals, stole money and inventory from the Heritage Center, Red Cloud Indian School. The estimated value of the property and loss was $18,000 which is an amount attributable to three defendants' unlawful conduct. The three defendants aided and abetted each other while perpetrating the larceny at the school. Thunderhawk pled guilty to the charge on November 4, 2009. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy R. Jehangiri prosecuted the case.
