Minneapolis Man Arrested for Robbing the First National Bank of the Lakes

Ralph S. Boelter, Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis FBI office, today, announced the federal arrest of Russell Brockman, age 44, of Minneapolis, Minnesota. On Wednesday, August 5, 2009, the First National Bank of the Lakes, located at 706 2nd Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota, was robbed by a lone individual. The robber entered the bank at approximately 3:30 p.m. and presented the victim teller a note which read, “Give me #10 $100.00 dollar bills or get shot.”  The teller provided the robber with an undisclosed amount of cash, and the robber left the bank on foot. Subsequent investigation revealed that the robber, later identified as Brockman, had left behind a palm print, which was recovered and analyzed by the Minneapolis Police Department crime lab. Further investigation led to officers locating and arresting Brockman without incident in Anoka, Minnesota on Thursday evening, August 6, 2009.  

On Monday, August 10, 2009, a federal criminal complaint was filed in United States District Court, District of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minnesota, charging Russell Brockman with one count of bank robbery for the alleged August 5, 2009, robbery of the First National Bank of the Lakes, located at 706 2nd Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Brockman also made his Initial Appearance in United States District Court, St. Paul, on Monday, and was ordered detained pending further court proceedings.

This investigation is a joint effort by the FBI and the Minneapolis Police Department. The United States Attorney’s Office, District of Minnesota is prosecuting this case.

The charges in a federal criminal complaint are merely an accusation and defendants are presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
