FBI Announces Arrest of Fugitive Alec Simchuk

The FBI announces the arrest of Alec Simchuk, 45, of Riga, Latvia, for his alleged involvement in a criminal organization that defrauded out-of-town businessmen and tourists by luring the victims from legitimate South Beach nightclubs to the defendant’s private clubs where the victims were then defrauded.

The arrest was made without incident by the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) around 2:00 p.m. today, July 26, 2012, at Miami International Airport, Miami, Florida.

Simchuk is in federal custody and is facing pending federal charges. It is anticipated that his initial appearance will be Friday, July 27, 2012 in federal court in Miami, Florida.

The FBI, the Miami Beach PD, and HSI continue their investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
