Liberty Roberts Receives 2009 Director’s Community Leadership Award

FBI Indianapolis December 04, 2009
  • Special Agent Wendy Osborne (317) 845-7055

Today, Michael S. Welch, Special Agent in Charge of the Indianapolis Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), presented the 2009 Director’s Community Leadership Award to Liberty Roberts. The awards ceremony occurred at the Indiana War Memorial in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, and was attended by all Indianapolis FBI employees.

Since 1990, the FBI has recognized individuals and organizations whose achievements in the terrorism, crime, drug, gang, or violence prevention/education field had an exemplary impact on the community. Each year, the SAC of each FBI field office selects an individual or organization that has made a major contribution in furthering the mission of the FBI.

Ms. Roberts is a partner of Collier-Magar & Roberts, where she has a multi-faceted civil litigation practice. She focuses on representing public entities in state and federal courts in an array of municipal liability claims. Ms. Roberts graduated from Franklin College magna cum laude where she received her Bachelor of Arts in History. She attended Indiana University School of Law from which she graduated magna cum laude and earned her Juris Doctor in 2001.

Ms. Roberts is actively involved in the local bar and her community. She is a member of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, and Indianapolis Association. She is a graduate of the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Bar Leadership Series, and is a participant in the 2009-2010 Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series. Ms. Roberts is a 2005 graduate of the FBI Citizens’ Academy. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Chapter of the FBI Citizens’ Academy Foundation, the Perry Township Education Foundation, and the Character Council of Indiana.

Ms. Roberts’ commitment to supporting the FBI’s mission has been immensely evident in her organization of multiple major programs over the last year. She co-chaired the committee for and donated hundreds of hours of her time to organize the FBI’s 100th anniversary celebration in 2008. FBI employees, and their community and law enforcement partners, celebrated along side multiple state and federal officials, including FBI Director Robert Mueller and Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.

Ms. Roberts also made possible the FBI’s annual summer picnic in July 2009. Again, committing her time and talent to the project, she brought together more than 500 individuals for this liaison event. Ms. Roberts oversaw the details of the evening, which afforded Bureau employees the opportunity to network and liaise with our community and law enforcement partners.

Additionally, Ms. Roberts devotes countless hours to the Citizens’ Academy Board of Directors. She has served as the Events Chair, overseeing the annual alumni spring luncheons and annual fall receptions for the past three years. She now serves as the President Elect, and is already making strides to organize and improve the function of the Board as she prepares to step in as president in 2010.
