Hubbard Man Charged with Armed Bank Robbery and Extortion

Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, today announced that a federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Douglas P. Centafanti, Jr., age 34, of Hubbard, Ohio, with one count of armed bank robbery and two counts of extortion.

The indictment charges that on June 15, 2011, Douglas P. Centafanti, Jr., robbed the First National Bank, at 7025 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio, of $9,392.00. The indictment also charges that on June 11, 2011, Douglas P. Centafanti, Jr., robbed the Check Into Cash business, at 435 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman, Ohio, and on June 13, 2011, robbed the Check Into Cash business, at 4774 Mahoning Avenue, Austintown, Ohio.

If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to the case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

The indictment was presented to the grand jury by Assistant United States Attorney Gregory C. Sassé after an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
