ROCKFORD—PATRICK J. FITZGERALD, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; ROBERT D. GRANT, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Michael Kuelper, Chief of the Rock Falls Police Department; and Kelly Wilhelmi, Whiteside County Sheriff, today made the following announcement:
TODD G. JENSEN, 42, of Eire, Illinois, was arrested today in Cicero on a bank robbery charge. A criminal complaint was filed this morning in federal court in Rockford, charging Jensen with robbing the Community State Bank in Rock Falls, Illinois. Jensen appeared before Magistrate Judge Mahoney in Rockford this afternoon. Magistrate Judge Mahoney ordered that Jensen be detained without bond until a preliminary examination and bond hearing could be held next Thursday, September 9, 2011, at 1:00 p.m.
According to the criminal complaint, on August 29, 2011 at approximately 1:27 p.m., Jensen entered the Community State Bank in Rock Falls and handed a teller a note demanding money and stating that he was armed with a gun. The complaint further alleged that after receiving cash from the teller, Jensen placed the money inside his sweatshirt, retrieved the note from the counter, and left the bank.
The case was investigated by the Rockford Office of the FBI, the Rock Falls Police Department, and the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department. The case is being prosecuted in federal court by Assistant United States Attorney JOSEPH C. PEDERSEN.
Members of the public are reminded that a criminal complaint is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. Each defendant is entitled to indictment by a federal grand jury and a fair trial at which the government will have the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
