Sanford Man Pleads Guilty to Fayetteville Bank Robbery

RALEIGH—United States Attorney Thomas G. Walker announced that in federal court today Randy Dale Carter, 26, pled guilty before United States Magistrate Judge William A. Webb to bank robbery, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2113(a).
On February 15, 2012, a federal grand jury returned an indictment charging Carter. According to the indictment, on August 24, 2011, Carter stole approximately $9,000 from the RBC Bank on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The investigation revealed that upon entering the bank, Carter presented a demand note to a teller. While gathering the money, the teller slipped a dye pack into the bag with the money. As Carter was entering a taxi cab, which he had summoned earlier for his escape, the dye pack exploded and the cab driver refused to give him a ride. Carter then escaped through a wooded area. Carter was identified through his finger prints left in the cab. Carter was later found and arrested.
The maximum penalty for the charge is up to 20 years’ imprisonment, followed by three years’ supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
Investigation of this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fayetteville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney S. Katherine Burnette is prosecuting the case.
