Pender County Drug Trafficker Receives Federal Sentence

U.S. Attorney’s Office December 17, 2009
  • Eastern District of North Carolina (919) 856-4530

RALEIGH—United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on December 16, 2009, United States District Judge Terrence Boyle sentenced TRIKOSKO ADOLPHUS HOLMES, 29, of Pender County, North Carolina to 200 months’ imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.

On September 14, 2009, HOLMES pled guilty to conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute and distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine base (crack).

On September 10, 2007, law enforcement was attempting to arrest HOLMES and a co-defendant in Duplin County for conduct related to their drug distribution activities. Duplin County detectives attempted to stop a car which HOLMES was driving. HOLMES led police on an approximately 10 mile chase running several stop signs and traveling at a speed in excess of 80 miles an hour. HOLMES drove through a police roadblock and narrowly missed colliding with a detective performing his duties. The chase proceeded for an additional mile when HOLMES lost control of his vehicle and wrecked his car. HOLMES and his co-defendant fled on foot. HOLMES was later arrested on this charge.

On September 11, 2007, a search warrant was executed at his house and 62 grams of cocaine were recovered. The investigation revealed that HOLMES was responsible for distributing 10 ounces of crack cocaine between July and September 11, 2007.

Mr. Holding commented, “We applaud the Court’s sentence in this matter. The sentence sends a strong message of deterrence to drug traffickers.”

This case was brought as a part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Operation entitled Don Quixote, investigating importers and multi-level distributors of cocaine, “crack” cocaine, heroin, Ecstasy and gang activity associated with this distribution. This organization is responsible for the importation and distribution of more than 200 kilograms of cocaine, more than 50 kilograms of “crack” cocaine, 3 kilograms of heroin, 20,000 Ecstacy pills and several kilograms of marijuana being imported and distributed into Eastern North Carolina since 2003. To date, 19 people have been sentenced in federal court as a part of this operation.

Investigation of this OCEDTF case is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; the Federal Bureau of Investigations Safe Streets Task Force (Wilmington); Drug Enforcement Administration; the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations; the Wilmington Police Department; the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office; the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office; the Pender County Sheriff’s Office; the Holly Ridge Police Department; the Top Sail Police Department; and the Surf City Police Department. This has been made possible by a grant funded by the Governor’s Crime Commission and the New Hanover County Commissioners.
