Philadelphia Man Charged with Robbing Belaggio Jewelers

Jeffery Harrison, age 59, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was charged today by indictment with three counts of robbery which interfered with interstate commerce and three counts of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence, announced U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger. The indictment charges that Harrison committed a gun-point robbery of Belaggio Jewelers, located at 2115 Cottman Avenue, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 4, 2011. The indictment further charges Harrison with committing two gun-point robberies of Radio Shack retail stores, located at 7723 Crittenden Street, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 26, 2011; and at 101 E. Olney Avenue, on December 28, 2011. Harrison is also charged with using and carrying a firearm during each of the robberies charged in the indictment.

The United States Attorney’s Office, FBI, ATF, Philadelphia Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies have established the Hobbs Act Robbery Task Force to investigate and prosecute organized gangs and groups committing commercial armed robberies in this district.

If convicted of all counts, Harrison faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, with a mandatory 57-year minimum sentence, a $1.5 million fine, five years’ supervised release, and a $600 special assessment.

This case has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police Department. The case has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.

An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
