Alleged Robber Indicted on Additional Charges

Shermell Mobley, 30, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was charged in a superseding indictment unsealed today with conspiracy and robbery which interferes with interstate commerce and using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. The superseding indictment charges that Mobley and others conspired to commit and committed a gun-point robbery of the owner and an employee of the Cold Beer and Deli at 5937 Market Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on December 15, 2008.

If convicted of all counts, Mobley faces a mandatory minimum seven-year sentence consecutive to all other sentences with a maximum sentence of life in prison, a fine of up to $750,000, five years’ supervised release, and a $300 special assessment.

The United States Attorney’s Office, FBI, ATF, Philadelphia Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies have established the Hobbs Act Robbery Task Force to investigate and prosecute organized gangs and groups committing commercial armed robberies in this district.

This case has been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Philadelphia Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.
