Federal Officials Announce the Sentencing of a Luzerne County Man

Federal officials announced today that a Luzerne county man involved in a betting ring has been federally sentenced.
Mark G. Fino, age 52, was sentenced yesterday by United States District Court Judge Richard P. Conaboy to a two-year term of probation with the first four months to be spent in house arrest. Judge Conaboy also ordered Fino to pay a $1,000 fine.
According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, Fino was the bar manager at Patte’s Sports Bar where an online betting operation took place. Fino, along with Patrick Patte, Jr. and Christopher Marion were charged in February with their respective roles in a gambling operation that utilized an Internet based gambling website for the placement of bets on professional sporting events. In April, Fino pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the transmission of wagering information by wire communication.
This case is part of an ongoing investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service and is being prosecuted by a team of federal prosecutors led by Senior Litigation Counsel Gordon Zubrod and includes Assistant U.S. Attorneys William Houser, Michael Consiglio, Amy Phillips, John Gurganus, and Criminal Division Chief Christian Fisanick.
