Nebraska Man Sentenced for Council Bluffs Bank Robbery

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA—On July 13 , 2010, Nicholas Ryan Hirsh, age 21, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced to seventy-seven (77) months’ imprisonment for the robbery of the U.S. Bank in Council Bluffs, Iowa, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Chief United States District Judge Robert W. Pratt, also ordered the defendant to serve a two-year term of supervised release following his imprisonment, and imposed an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victims Fund. The court also ordered the defendant to pay restitution in the amount of $444.00 to the bank.
Nicholas Ryan Hirsh was sentenced upon his plea of guilty, which had previously been entered in Federal District Court in Council Bluffs. On December 15, 2009, the defendant, using a note, but no weapon, robbed the U.S. Bank of approximately $444.00 dollars. On December 16, 2009, law enforcement officers observed the defendant and attempted to arrest him. A high-speed pursuit ensued, with the defendant damaging some law enforcement vehicles and crashing his vehicle. The defendant was taken into custody and has remained detained since December 16.
This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This case was investigated by the Council Bluffs Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
