Nora R. Dannehy, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that DAVID A. MAKSIMIK, 60, of Stamford, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven to 120 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release. On June 2, 2009, MAKSIMIK pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery.
According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, on January 29, 2009, MAKSIMIK robbed approximately $3,745 from the People’s United Bank, located at 25 Old Kings Highway North in Darien. MAKSIMIK entered the bank with a black power pistol and fake grenade strapped to his chest and approached the teller, handing her a note demanding all the high-denomination bills contained in her drawer. Upon returning to his apartment after the robbery, MAKSIMIK found that his roommate had died, and proceeded to call the police. When the police arrived, they arrested MAKSIMIK after they found evidence that connected him to the bank robbery.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Darien Police Department and the Stamford Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Senior Litigation Counsel Richard J. Schechter.
