WASHINGTON—Ahmed Mohammed Hassan, 36, has pled guilty to carrying out a bank robbery last year near DuPont Circle, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.

Hassan, who has no fixed address, entered his guilty plea to a charge of bank robbery on April 1, 2011, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He is to be sentenced by the Honorable Richard W. Roberts on June 24, 2011. He faces up to 20 years of incarceration.

According to the government’s evidence, Hassan entered the TD Bank in the 1700 block of Connecticut Avenue NW at about 7:45 p.m. on April 28, 2010. He then handed the teller a note stating, “Hello. This is a hold up. For your safety don’t push the panic bottom [sic] and follow my order and everyone will be safe. No fake money also. Thanks.”

The teller turned over $430 from her drawer. Hassan dropped the money and his wallet after leaving the bank, and the stolen cash was recovered.

In announcing the guilty plea, U.S. Attorney Machen commended the investigative work of the FBI/MPD Violent Crimes Task Force. He also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine Connelly and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Dana, who prosecuted the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, who secured the indictment.
