  • Eastern District of California (916) 554-2700

FRESNO, CA—United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that a federal grand jury returned an indictment today charging Lafaele Fetalina, 32, housed in Atwater Penitentiary, with assault of a federal officer on duty resulting in bodily injury.

According to court documents, Fetalina punched a federal officer on duty and inflicted bodily injuries.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Yasin Mohammad is prosecuting the case.

If convicted of the assault charges, Fetalina faces a maximum term of 20 years in prison, along with a $250,000 fine. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.

The charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
