U.S. Attorney’s Office February 22, 2010
  • Southern District of West Virginia (304) 345-2200

HUNTINGTON, WV—Roger Gilmore, 42, of Scott Depot, West Virginia, was sentenced to 51 months in prison and fined $10,000 for possessing child pornography. Gilmore previously pled guilty in November 2009, admitting he knowingly possessed hundreds of images of child pornography. A forensic examination of Gilmore’s home computer, conducted by the West Virginia State Police’s Digital Forensic Unit, revealed over 600 images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Gilmore downloaded the images via the Internet. The West Virginia State Police and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement jointly conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston handled the prosecution.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In February 2006, the Department of Justice created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue victims.
